本書は編者が制作している20弦の金属弦ハープ(G3-E6)のために編曲したものです。1日1曲弾けるように366の曲をまとめました(うるう年対応)。Appendix に9曲収録。10万字超におよぶ楽曲解説付き。A4判、本文全290ページ。リング製本のため、開きやすくコピーも取りやすいです。目にやさしいクリーム色。900g。
序文より
「この曲集は私が設計、製作している20弦の金属弦ハープ(G3-E6)のために編纂したものです。20弦ハープは最低音がヴァイオリンのG3で、これまでもっとも多く制作してきたモデルです。小さなハープでありながら、ほとんどすべてのアイルランド音楽を奏でることができます。とりわけ、アイルランド音楽の最大の魅力である「素朴さ」を表現するには最もふさわしいサイズです。古い本や録音等からアイルランドの伝統音楽を集めるのは、河原で珍しい石を拾ったり、浜辺で綺麗な貝がらを探したりすることに似ています。海の砂のようにその音楽はあまりにも広大で限りがないのです。20年以上書きためてきたレパートリーを整理する目的でこの本を書き始めました。美しい旋律を作曲し、伝承してきてくれた先人に改めて敬意と感謝の念を抱いています。曲順は、調弦を考えて配置しています。つまり、1. Open the door softly から195. Fáinne Geal an Lae,まではCの調弦(調号なし)、196. Eirghidhe an lae から344. Tom Bowling まではGの調弦(#ひとつ)で演奏可能です。345. Squire Wood's Lamentation から最後の 366. Melancholy Galliard まではオクターヴごとに調弦を変えるスコルダトゥーラを用います。バンティングによると、18世紀以前のアイリッシュ・ハープの調弦には基本的にCとGしか用いられなかったといいます。この本を手にされた方に、楽しみながら小さな金属弦ハープの魅力と奥深さを知ってもらえたらと願っています」。
* 366曲集335曲(appendix を含めると344曲)はD6までしか現れないので、19弦のハープ(G3-D6)または、パキスタン系の20弦ハープ(F3-D6)でもそのまま弾けます。
